A Wish

We were sitting out on the dock,

sky star-dusted,

satellites humming,

night bugs and thoughts buzzing,

trying to become something beautiful…

when it happened.

burned through parts of me all the way up there

and all the way down here at the same time.

It took forever and gave me plenty of moments to consider the time that it’s light was taking to reach my eyes

It wasn’t falling or shooting, it was living and burning and flying

and then it flashed and it was dying

and on it’s last breath it asked if I had any wishes and a wish lept

from the depths of me, a wish I’d never met

and it became so.

and he said,

that I probably just saw a satellite.
